Job overview
We are looking for an AI Backend Engineer to build practical, reliable AI-powered solutions for Higher Education.
You will work closely with Product, Engineering, Data, and education-domain teams to translate real user needs into scalable AI capabilities. The role focuses on applying modern AI technologies effectively, integrating them into existing digital products and workflows, and continuously improving their quality in production.
This position is suited for an engineer who combines strong backend software engineering skills with a practical understanding of AI systems and product development.
This role is ideal for:

• VinUni alumni with strong foundations in AI, ML, or data

• Engineers trained in VinBigData/ VinAI.. P&L programs
  Key Responsibilities:

• Analyze business and user needs and translate them into appropriate AI-powered solutions.

• Design and develop AI services, workflows, and backend components for digital education products.

• Evaluate and select suitable AI technologies, models, and platforms based on quality, performance, security, and cost.

• Integrate AI capabilities with existing applications, data sources, and institutional systems.

• Develop approaches for prompt design, information retrieval, contextual grounding, and structured AI outputs.

• Build evaluation methods to measure the accuracy, relevance, reliability, and user value of AI-generated results.

• Implement appropriate validation, fallback, monitoring, and human-review mechanisms.

• Optimize AI services for performance, scalability, maintainability, and operational cost.

• Monitor production performance and continuously improve solutions based on data and user feedback.

• Apply appropriate standards for data privacy, security, responsible AI, and technical documentation.

• Participate in technical design, code reviews, troubleshooting, and knowledge-sharing activities.

• Collaborate with cross-functional teams throughout the full product development lifecycle.
  Qualifications:
  Required

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, AI, Data Science, Engineering, or related fields.

• 4+ years of professional Backend/ Fullstack Engineering software development experience.

• Strong proficiency in Python and at least one additional backend language such as Node.js, Go, or Java and experience developing backend services or APIs and common AI frameworks (PyTorch, TensorFlow, or similar).

• Experience with backend frameworks/ teckstacks such as FastAPI, SQLAlchemy, PostgreSQL, Redis, Celery, WebSocket, Microservices.

• Strong foundation in machine learning and data structures.

• Ability to write clean, testable, maintainable, and well-documented code.

• Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to turn ambiguous requirements into workable technical solutions.

• Ability to communicate technical assumptions, limitations, risks, and trade-offs clearly.

• Comfortable working with Product, Engineering, Data, and non-technical stakeholders.

• Graduates or engineers trained within Vingroup programs or VinUni alumni are highly encouraged.
  Nice to Have

• Experience with real datasets (projects, internships, research).

• Basic understanding of model deployment, REST APIs, or cloud platforms.

• Familiarity with SQL, data pipelines, or basic DevOps concepts.

• Participation in AI competitions, research projects, or open-source contributions.
